Mayor's Proclamation to Engineers
February 2026

In recognition of the week, Mayor Kimo Alameda issued a proclamation declaring Feb. 22 - 28 as Engineers Week in Hawaii County, highlighting the contributions of local engineers to oublic safety, economic development, and community well-being.
In Hawai‘i, engineering carries a unique responsibility. Our island setting, limited resources, and constant exposure to natural hazards demand practical, resilient solutions. Whether it’s improving water systems, strengthening transportation networks, advancing renewable energy, developing housing, or protecting our coastlines, engineers play a daily role in keeping our communities safe, reliable, and built to last.
Engineers Week is also about investing in the future. Throughout the week, local engineers will visit schools to talk story with students about careers in the field, share real-world experiences, and spark interest in science, technology, engineering, and math. These efforts help build a strong local pipeline of talent ready to take on Hawai‘i’s growing and changing needs.
The local engineering community will also host an Engineers Week Golf Outing, bringing together colleagues, industry partners, and supporters to connect outside the office and celebrate the profession.
At its core, engineering is collaborative. Civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, environmental, and architectural professionals work side by side with planners, contractors, and public agencies to deliver projects that are technically sound and grounded in the needs of our communities.
